About Us

Boo! We're a group of history students from Nanyang Technological University. As you may tell from the title of our project, the idea of a digital heritage tour of historical sites first came about from our group's interest in supernatural happenings at various abandoned buildings in Singapore (e.g. Pasir Ris Red House, Matilda House and Istana Woodneuk). It then occured to us that many historical sites in Singapore were widely known in popular culture- for those into spooky stuff- as "haunted" and that there was a tendency to discount their historical pasts and significance. After delving into more research, our team grew increasingly interested in green spaces- namely, parks in Singapore located on land significant during WWII which also had ghost stories tied to them. After doing a survey on whether people residing in Singapore were aware of the histories connected to these parks, we found that many were unfamiliar with them. These results motivated us to create this digital tour, where we aimed to curate a historical and sensory experience which visitors can experience anywhere and anytime to encourage all to become more conscious of past narrative attached to leisure spaces of today.

History in Singapore “was a matter of supreme indifference for most Singaporeans simply because they believed this island never really had a history worth remembering”.

S. Rajaratnam, 1987 (Former Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore)
